After leading her fellow students and cheering for the high school football team, senior Emma Magee accepted the title Fan of the Game when the Bexley football team defeated Lakewood High School Sept. 10.
Fan of the Game is given to a couple of students who show the most pride and energy after each home game. Magee explained she was awarded Fan of the Game because of her enthusiasm, raising the spirits of her classmates and leading the student section while also cheering on the team.
The theme of the game was “camo and country,” and Magee explained she stood out wearing a shirt that said “Howdy! Howdy! Howdy!” along with many other accessories.
“All my friends and I were decked out,” Magee said. “We had cowboy hats, jean shorts and cowboy boots. I also had a bandana.”
Magee said that the beginning of the game was quiet and the energy was low. She said that she raised the spirits of the fans by exuberantly cheering on the football team and being enthusiastic about each play.
“The student section leaders had a megaphone, and it finally got so loud and was a lot of fun,” Magee said.
She explained that being a senior has made her appreciate football games differently.
“It’s just fun to be a senior,” Magee said. “You aren’t afraid to cheer really loud and be enthusiastic.”
Magee explained that the highlight of the game was when she and the other Fan of the Game, senior Marleigh Warner, led the student section across the football field to ring the victory bell after the football team defeated Lakewood.
