When arriving at Columbus’ East Market, I expected to eat an ordinary meal. But Creole2Geaux, one of the many stalls in the marketplace, adds southern New Orleans flair to its dishes and proved to be far out of the ordinary.
East Market provides an assortment of foods from Greece, Korea, New Orleans and other destinations to its customers. I entered the market and was greeted by colorful and vibrant stalls, all dispensing alluring scents that made it difficult for me to choose where I would get dinner.
When walking through the marketplace, one stall in particular caught my attention. Creole2Geaux presents a lively and exciting experience to its customers, serving flavors and recipes based in New Orleans.
My curiosity heightened as I took a look at what Louisiana recipes Creole2Geaux had to offer. New Orleans classics such as Bourbon Chicken and Jambalaya Mac & Cheese intrigued me, but as a sandwich lover I couldn’t resist a Po’boy. I approached the booth to place my order, and after less than ten minutes, my food was ready.
I ordered the $15 Chicken Po’boy, which I thought was quite pricey. Once I opened the packaging, my eyes met a large sandwich with an abundance of seasoned fries, making the price worth it. The sandwich had grilled chicken, creamy cajun sauce, pickles, onions, lettuce and tomato. Just looking at the meal made my mouth water, and I was ready to dig in.
The chicken was fresh and juicy and was perfectly portioned to the rest of the meal. The tomatoes were not ripe nor flavorful, but the freshness of the lettuce, onions and pickles made up for it. I was also delighted to taste the freshly-baked bread that wrapped the sandwich together. All elements of the sandwich poured out onto the sides, making for a large meal, but also making it difficult to eat.
When looking at the fries, I did not expect to be blown away. They appeared to be ordinary french fries, but they ended up improving the already delicious meal. They were the perfect temperature and seasoned to perfection. Besides the mess I made while devouring my taste of New Orleans, I was very satisfied with the purchase.
Creole2Geaux provided a great meal that met my expectations and brought Louisiana cuisine to Columbus. Although the environment was not lively as I had expected, I enjoyed my time at East Market and the food at Creole2Geaux.
