Winning Best Actor at the Oscars is one of the highest honors for any actor and can make any actor a household name. For Best Actor in a Leading Role, Chadwick Boseman should receive the Oscar.
Boseman passed away at age 43 due to colon cancer in August 2020, shortly after the movie “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” was filmed, his final movie and acclaimed to be one of his best.
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” released to Netflix in December, is set in the 1920s and follows a day in the life of blues singer Ma Rainey (Viola Davis) and her fellow musicians. The main character is real, yet the plot is fictional.
Boseman plays Levee, one of Ma Rainey’s band members. He transformed himself into a hotheaded, strong-minded musician, and his acting portrayed this role to the fullest extent. He demonstrated his range and skill as an actor with the variety of emotions he portrayed.
In one particular scene where Ma Rainey fires Levee from the band, he kicks and kicks at a door. It finally opens and leads to nothing. His acting goes from furious and energetic to calm and frustrated. His way of shifting emotions flawlessly makes him deserving of this award.
Boseman’s range as an actor is unmatched by all the other nominees, so he deserves this Oscar above anyone.
