Clusters of L.L. Bean backpacks are being returned to the old closet space as they are replaced by colorful floral totes known as Vera Bradley bags. But why are some students switching to the vibrant shoulder bags?
Senior Molly Brenner said that the bag’s versatility is the reason for its popularity.
“Vera Bradley bags are very functional and, since they come in many different patterns and sizes, they are appealing to a lot of different people,” Brenner said.
Brenner added that she has a plethora of Vera Bradley bags.
“I have many different Vera Bradley bags, and I love how they can turn a plain outfit into a cute trendy one,” Brenner said. “I use my ‘Vera Tote’ every day.”
Special education teacher Michelle Frenz said that she has a wide array of Vera Bradley bags.
“Oh, God,” Frenz said. “I maybe own about eight purses, two tote bags, two duffle bags, five wristlets and a ton of wallets. I use them for any occasion: travel, school and purse uses, anything.”
Freshman Samantha Urell also uses her Vera Bradley bags for multiple purposes.
“I use them as purses, lap top holders and school bags,” Urell said. “I like the bags’ vibrant colors and cool designs. I never get tired of using the same bag because they always add fashion to a dull outfit.”
Urell explains that her reason for buying one was for simplicity.
“I needed a large bag to carry to the beach, to the gym or to school, so now I have one bag instead of three,” Urell said. “I use the bag for everything.”
Both Brenner and Urell said Vera Bradley bags will never reach the height of popularity that other trends have.
“I don’t think Vera Bradley will become as popular at Bexley as certain other trends because many people are still hung up on the fact that their mom and grandma use Vera Bradley as well,” Brenner said.
Frenz elaborates on her obsession.
“I’m so obsessed, it’s kind of sick,” Frenz said. “I even take a day off work every year and go to the factory outlet sale.”
