You hit your alarm and roll out of bed. You throw on your favorite pair of leggings and are ready for the day. But where are you going, a workout at the gym or an ‘80s aerobic exercise class? No, you’re prepared for anything: a day at school, at the mall, at a friends house or anywhere else you can fathom.
Sophomore Sarah Peck says she wears leggings for almost any occasion.
“I mostly [wear leggings] because I’m either too lazy to put on jeans, or I want to be really comfortable,” Peck said.
Freshman Emily Fedner says she likes leggings because of their convenience.
“Leggings are perfect for any weather and can be worn with anything,” Fedner said. “You can wear them in the heat and in the snow.”
Peck concurs with Fedner and believes that leggings are mostly worn for comfort reasons.
“I definitely wear leggings for comfort, but it’s also a bonus that they happen to be really cute,” Peck said.
Junior Jenn Eisenman believes that leggings have become a popular trend because of their comfort. Peck thanks the media for the recent explosion.
“I think wearing leggings has become popular at Bexley because, like any other trend, they’re what’s in the magazines, on TV and everywhere else we look (fashion-wise),” Peck said.
Fedner agrees with Peck and also believes the media is the reason for their rise.
“Leggings are popular because celebrities started wearing them along with the spark of the return of the ‘80s,” Fedner said.
No matter how popular leggings may become among students, Peck still believes they will never reach the peak of North Face status.
“I don’t think [wearing] leggings has been quite as popular as wearing North Faces just because you can wear a North Face every single day, and most people do, while the only people who can wear leggings every day are ‘80s aerobics instructors,” Peck said.
Although Eisenman agrees with Peck, she still believes that almost every girl at Bexley owns a pair.
“I see leggings in the hallways every day,” Eisenman said. “It’s very rare if you go through a day without seeing someone sporting the leggings look.”
