Cards were kept hidden, chips were fidgeted in hands and expressions were held steady as the last round of poker began. Sweat dripped down the faces of the two remaining contenders: science teacher Scott Logsdon and math teacher Jason Willcoxon.
The teachers not only come together for game nights, but collaborate and socialize at work, Logsdon said.
He explained the two have been friends for about 20 years and met through former math teacher Mark Hayman.
The duo have zip lined, attended Columbus Clippers games and gone on trips together, Logsdon added.
“I’ve camped a number of places with him,” he said. “From tent camping to cabin camping and weekends away, it’s just fun to hang out with each other.”
Willcoxon explained one of his favorite memories with Logsdon was at an International Baccalaureate convention in Austin, Texas.
“We had the greatest barbecue of all time at Rudy’s Bar-B-Q,” he said. “We ate some amazing Texas brisket together.”
Willcoxon said they also have a close relationship with each other in school.
Logsdon said he looks to Willcoxon for help with math or computer problems and appreciates having a friend he can rely on.
“I think it’s great to have folks that you’re besties with, who you can go to when things go sideways at work and who can help you navigate through things,” he said.
Willcoxon explained the two admire each other.
“We help each other remember what teaching is all about: helping kids,” he said.
Logsdon said he learns a lot from Willcoxon’s interactions with students.
“He will drop everything to help students,” he said. “That’s just his philosophy.”
Willcoxon added Logsdon has helped him improve both in and out of school.
“He has been outstanding, reminding me how fast time goes with your kids,” he explained. “He has been an example of a great dad and teacher for me.”
Willcoxon said it’s great to have a friend who has his back.
“I never have to wonder where I stand with Scott Logsdon,” he said. “I know that I have his best in mind and that he has my best in mind.”
