One may think math and music are unrelated, but choral director Amy Blosser and math teacher Tony Carfagna’s friendship goes beyond the school day.
Carfagna and Blosser have maintained a close friendship for over 13 years, Blosser explained. They became friends during the 2012-13 school year, when Blosser invited Carfagna on the Vocal Ensemble tour to Toronto, she added.
Carfagna said the experience gave him the chance to connect with Blosser on a deeper level.
“When I chaperoned, I really got to know her,” he said. “She is a brilliant conductor and has an amazing singing voice.”
Blosser said outside of school, their families often meet to play euchre together and partner for the game with each other’s spouses.
“Sean and I joke that the way we win so much is that we’re not as nice as Andy and Carfagna are,” she explained.
Spending time with Carfagna is always fun, Blosser added.
“We laugh so much together,” she said. “People that are Gen X like us would probably enjoy some of the things we talk about at our weekly euchre games.”
Carfagna said having close friends in the building makes work more enjoyable.
“It makes Bexley High School seem like more of a family,” he explained. “Bexley isn’t just a place where I work. It’s a place that is filled with people that I care about.”
Blosser said it’s important to have authentic friendships.
“Find somebody who truly makes you laugh,” she said. “Find someone you feel totally comfortable hanging out with.”
