Junior Annmarie Carleton and freshman Lily Turkovich perform Act II of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” as Puck and Squash during a dress rehearsal. The play ran Oct. 11 and 12 in the Cassingham gym. The venue imitated classic Shakespearean performances, as it was “in the round,” meaning the audience was seated on all four sides of an elevated platform in the center of the gym. The play follows several intertwined storylines in ancient Athens, including star-crossed lovers Hermia and Lysander and Helena and Demetrius, as well as feuding King and Queen of the fairies Oberon and Titania, and a theater troupe, the Mechanicals. The performance contrasted typical Bexley Theatre Arts productions because it was performed as a dinner theater. It had five acts with a short intermission between each act, during which cast members served a catered meal to audience members. There were two matinee performances and one evening performance, featuring talent from all grade levels.
