Wherever freshman Harper McKenzie is found, so too is her lucky bag of golden smile tokens and fortunes.
McKenzie said she was mailed the pouch by her grandmother, and she then added two fortunes from fortune cookies to it.
The fortunes McKenzie put in the bag were about happiness and future finances, she said.
“One says that happy news is on its way to you,” she explained. “One says your financial gains in life are about to begin.”
The pouch is a small drawstring bag with lots of flowers and an inspirational message in colorful letters on the front, she explained.
McKenzie said she loves how portable the bag was and she thinks it is really cute.
McKenzie said she first knew the pouch was lucky after she brought it to a state gymnastics meet.
“I really wanted to place,” she said. “I got first runner up which was really exciting, and now I bring it with me everywhere.”
The luck continued after that, she said. McKenzie said the first day she brought the lucky pouch to school, she got a perfect score on her social studies quiz.
“I was excited because I had never gotten a perfect score on one of the map quizzes before,” she explained.
McKenzie said when she has her pouch with her, she feels protected.
“I just feel nothing will go wrong,” she said.
