Junior Sydney Beten had a unique idea for her first-grade Halloween costume: a grandma.
Beten explained she initially got the idea to dress as a grandma from her own grandmother, who wanted Beten to dress up as her. Together, they planned the outfit for a few months, she said.
The costume consisted of a grey wig, long skirt, walker, cardigan and glasses, Beten said.
While trick-or-treating, Beten said many adults passing out candy loved her costume. The kids she went trick-or-treating with also liked it and thought it was super funny. The compliments she received inspired her to recreate the costume the next year as a second grader, but with a twist, she said.
“The walker made it hard to run around from house to house with my friends, so the next year I decided to use a cane instead,” Beten said.
After making the change, Beten said trick-or-treating was much more enjoyable because she wasn’t being slowed down by the walker.
“This has definitely been one of my favorite costumes I have done,” Beten said. “I am really glad I decided to go through with it.”
