When he was 4 years old, sophomore Harrison Spring decided to be a circus ringmaster for Halloween. He said the idea for a ringmaster costume came to him because at the time, he wanted to be a part of a circus.
Spring spent close to a month planning his costume and created it with the help of his grandparents. Together, they designed a maroon suit, giant black buttons and a black top hat, he explained. His costume also consisted of a pair of black rain boots, a fake mustache made out of fabric and a ring of fire that he said he and his grandparents made out of cardboard and paint.
While trick-or-treating, Spring said he received many compliments on his unique costume from adults passing out candy, but he did feel left out from his friends.
“A lot of the other kids were wearing costumes like superheroes or animals,” Spring said.
He explained some of them made fun of the costume because it was different from theirs, and a lot of them didn’t know what the costume was supposed to be.
“Even though some of the other kids didn’t love the costume,” Spring said, “I am still glad I created it because of the time I got to spend with my grandparents throughout the process.”
