The girls swim team concluded their season with a third place win at the Division II State Swimming and Diving Championship Feb. 27.
Sophomore Katie Drummond placed second in the 50 yard freestyle and third in the 100 yard butterfly. Sophomore Sophie Dankof placed fourth in the 100 yard backstroke. The girls 200 yard medley relay and 400 yard freestyle relay teams placed second and third, respectively.
Drummond said the main factor in the team’s success at states was the work they put in during the season.
“We have all committed years to this sport and we are constantly saying no to things to prioritize swimming,” she said. “When you put all of those sacrifices that we all make together, you are able to accomplish great things like our team has.”
Drummond said she achieved many personal bests this year and was satisfied with how the season went overall.
“I had a lot of time drops and high finishes,” she said. “My experience this season has been extremely good. I really was able to be present and enjoy each meet.”
Drummond said the team has a positive dynamic, which has improved their camaraderie. She added individual swimmers have each other’s backs during meets.
“Our team worked really good at always being there for each other,” she said. “Whenever someone had a bad race, or a really good one, my teammates are always there supporting each other.”
