Since 2005, the beginning of August in Chicago has been home to Lollapalooza. The festival, created by Perry Farrell, has brought thousands of people to the city every year to celebrate live music.
For the past two years, I’ve been lucky enough to secure tickets to the festival, attending Thursday and Friday both times. This year’s festival was taken to new heights, being one of the largest Lollapalooza turnouts in history. In addition, the festival had a lineup of amazing artists–one of the best lineups I’ve seen. Between both days, my favorite artists I saw were Chappell Roan and FISHER.
Roan’s captivating stage presence attracted a crowd spanning nearly half the festival grounds, going from one end near the main stage and spanning past multiple other stages to the middle of the grounds. One of my favorite moments of attending Lollapalooza this year was when I looked behind me during Roan’s performance of her unreleased song “The Subway” and saw how many thousands of people had come just to see her perform.
On the other hand, FISHER performed at one of the smaller stages off to the side of the main grounds. Despite this, I’ve found the stage he was performing on has become one of my favorites in the past two years. I’ve been a fan of FISHER for a while, and being able to see him perform “TAKE IT OFF” live was one of my most memorable concert moments to date. The energy in the crowd bounced off of him, and he reciprocated even more, making the performance lively and entertaining.
Lollapalooza’s accomplishment in gathering a wide variety of talented artists within the park for thousands of people to watch perform is nothing less than captivating. The memories I’ve made with both people and artists I love has kept me wanting to keep purchasing tickets and making the trip to Chicago every year.
